Okay, those of you who know me understand that I do not like to “exercise”, only because of the negative connotations that “exercise” has in my mind. However, I do LOVE dancing (please do not give me the argument that dancing is exercise) and I find it very mentally and emotionally beneficial.
Why should you exercise?
Not only can exercise help you to lose weight, stay healthy, improve your heart, and help you look better but it is also an excellent way to improve both your mood and the way your brain functions.
Exercise Reduces Stress
Exercise can help reduce stress. When you exercise, you boost the levels of key chemicals in your brain such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine which all help you to feel more relaxed.
Exercise Helps Learning
Exercise increases the level of brain chemicals called growth factors which are responsible for making new brain cells. Research shows a direct correlation between kids exercising and an improvement in their grades.
Exercise Improves Self-esteem and Body Image
Exercise is goal oriented and getting faster, fitter, slimmer and stronger can improve your overall self-esteem and body image.
Exercise Helps You to Feel Good
Exercise releases cannabinoids in the brain that make you feel good, often referred to as the "runners high".
Exercise Increase Brain Functioning
Researchers at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago found that exercise slows the rate of dying brain cells. In addition, when you exercise, you allow the brain to make more brain cells
It's Time to Exercise
When exercising, you are quite literally encouraging your brain to grow more beneficial cells. It's important for everyone to get exercising (whatever form of exercise that you enjoy) because every time you exercise you are getting a little bit smarter and possibly much happier.
Wishing you vibrant health,
Monica
